Job Title: Director IT, Application Services
Description:
ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc is currently seeking an experienced Director of Application Services to lead the planning, coordinating and supervision of all design, development and implementation of information systems and software applications. The ideal candidate will have prior Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology experience and be familiar with the entire drug development process from discovery research through commercialization.
The Director of Application Services will be responsible for recruiting and developing a team of systems/business analysts to support ARIAD’s various business systems. Some direct support requirements will be required as part of the position based upon the functional expertise of the candidate.
The position will work closely with Senior IT management and business unit leaders to help establish and maintain strategic alignment of technology initiatives and company business objectives. You will also serve as a liaison between the user communities and IT, ensuring the proper planning, communication and coordination of all efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Application Services would be expected to:
- Implement enterprise application projects, directing requirements definition, development, validation, and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Assist in developing strategic plans for key initiatives including Clinical Data Management, Quality Systems, Document Management and Oracle ERP.
- Work with Senior IT management and business representatives to establish service level agreements for all enterprise system support
- Implement an ITIL 3.0 based Service Delivery framework and define service level agreements for all enterprise applications.
- Work with senior management, business heads and finance to ensure project costs and schedules are sufficiently estimated and controlled.
- Act as a general contractor to develop appropriate support for projects from various technology and service groups.
- Prepare project budgets, business cases, and metrics to secure funding for new business system initiatives
- Create a team environment.

Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to lead and energize multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated verbal and written skills. Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills
- Strong project management skills; experience in organizing, planning and executing large scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors and vendors; ability to analyze project needs and determine resources needed to meet objectives.
- Prior working experience in an ITIL based organization
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Experience developing strategic information plans for both content and technology required.
- Excellent people skills required
Education Experience
- Bachelors degree in Business (or Management), Computer Science, Engineering. A Masters degree highly desirable.
- 7 to 10 years of IT experience
- 7+ years project management related to multiple major development projects required.
- ITIL 2.0 or higher Manager certification in Service Management desired
- At least 5 years experience in advanced database and application support and development required. Experience with at least two or more of the following areas of focus is required: R&D, Clinical, Regulatory and Quality, Oracle ERP Management, or Commercial.
Work Conditions
- Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
- Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
- Some travel may be required for the purpose of offsite training, vendor meetings and industry conference attendance.
